My Heart Breaks For The Amish

The faith of the Amish has been ridiculed by many people. I really don't know much about their customs, beliefs or way of life, but I respect them. Listen to what one paper said about one Amish man's thoughts concerning the tragedy.

"Sam Stoltzfus, 63, an Amish woodworker who lives a few miles away from the shooting scene, told The Associated Press that the victims' families will be sustained by their faith.
"We think it was God's plan, and we're going to have to pick up the pieces and keep going," he told AP. "A funeral to us is a much more important thing than the day of birth because we believe in the hereafter. The children are better off than their survivors."

What a tremendous testimony of faith in the midst of such horrendous tragedy!

My heart breaks for these people.

One could argue the statement that this was "God's plan".

What do you think?

Last week, I began a message series in the book of Habakkuk. Habakkuk accused God of being Indifferent, Inactive, and Inconsistent.

Here is a excerpt from this coming Sunday's message:

"Many people (today) would accuse God of the same thing. Habakkuk was frustrated because God was going to use a nation more wicked than the Israelites to accomplish His plan and His purpose.

School Tragedies, War, and the rest of the violence in our world happens right under the nose of a Perfect and Holy God. Do we really think that God doesn't know what's happening? When tragedy strikes, we must cling to the theme verse of this book; Habakkuk 2:4, "Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith."

With that being said, It's hard for us to say that it was "God's plan" because we have an earthly view point, instead of a heavenly one. Would you agree?

It certainly is correct to say that God 'permitted' it, but cannot be right to say that God 'planned' it.

Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
(Jam 1:13)

God permitted this tragedy in that he did not stop it. It was most likely a demon who planned this in the heart and mind of the murderer.

God does not plan wicked, evil things to happen to little girls.

Am I making sense?

Jamie,

The question of whether this was "God's plan" is not a distraction in my opinion.

As a believer, I don't want sinners running around thinking that my God plans to have little girls bound, raped (thank God he didn't carry through with the rapes), and killed.

So this IS a legitimate consideration in my opinion.
