Who Do You Say That I Am?

Probably the greatest question ever asked in the Bible is this one. Matthew 16:15, "But who do you say that I am?"

This Sunday at StoneBridge I will be dissecting this passage of Scripture in Matthew 16:13-17. The message will deal with Defining The Relationship With God. So many people have never internalized this question. They have tried to answer this question from a Historical or even an Intellectual point of view. Defining the Relationship with God is more than having a Historical or Intellectual belief in Christ, one must internalize this question. They must get to the core or root of the problem.

The apostle Peter answered this question in verse 16, "Simon Peter answered and said, 'You are the Christ, the son of the living God.'" In verse 17, "Jesus answered and said to him, 'Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.'"

When the gospel of Jesus Christ is preached, God is present. Our job is to plant the seed of the gospel and water, but it is God who gives the increase. No one is able to answer this question (Who do you say that I am?) with just simple logic, it will take the ever present Spirit of God convicting and convincing the sinner of his/her need of repentance and faith in the Living Savior, Jesus Christ.

If you are not sure about your relationship with God it is important that you do business with God. You must identify the dysfunction (the sin), repent of it, and place your faith in Christ.

If you will pray: Dear God, I know that I am a sinner. I believe that my sin is what put Jesus on the cross, please forgive me. Today, I turn from my sin and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus is alive and He is Lord. Thank you for saving me and giving me a home in heaven. Please help me to live for you, serve you, and worship you in and through a church that preaches the doctrines of Jesus Christ. In Jesus name. Amen.
